NEWS RELEASE

Wausau Engineering & Global Leadership Academy
When Marijean Hoppe isn’t managing
our transportation and civil teams, she is hard at work as
the Governance Council Chair for the newly created Wausau
Engineering & Global Leadership Academy (Wausau EGL
Academy).
This new and exciting opportunity for high school students
is a charter school for those interested in pursing a career
in any field of engineering, mathematics, science and
technology. The school, located inside Wausau East High
School, will first consist of 60 students in grades 10 and
11, but eventually expand to 120 students and grades 9 and
12. The program is geared toward self-directed learning and
emphasizes leadership skills and cultural understanding
which will support students in college and later in life.
Participants will learn in a small-work environment and
through community service projects, job shadowing,
internships and other new and innovative methods. The school
is considered a separate high school from the other high
schools in the Wausau School District, with its own
schedule, teachers, and graduation ceremony. Students will
still have to meet state of Wisconsin Academic Standards for
graduation in all core subject areas.
Becher Hoppe is excited about this opportunity and looks
forward to the possibility of adding some of these young,
talented individuals to the Becher Hoppe team.
